SAFETY NOW: December 2009

I've spent the last couple days pretty much holed up inside my house. The weather has been brutal cold and persistent. It is currently -9 degrees outside. I'm not much of a Nebraska guy, to be honest. Although I've never lived anywhere else since I was three years old, the climates of other states have enticed me a great deal. I guess my favorite is California. When I visit my aunt in Ventura, I step off the plain and it's like paradise hit me. I want to rub on it, kneed it and snuggle it like a cat would a bed by a radiator.

I remember being in Tucson AZ earlier in the year, about mid-April. The weather there was amazing, partly because at home it was very cold. However, I was in the back yard of the peoples house I was staying at, reading a book in my bare feet and I received a sunburn after being out there for a half hour. It was extra strange because It wasn't flaming hot out there, nor did it hurt while it was happening. It was a sneak attack. For that, AZ could never be my home. For that and John McCain.

So today, after not leaving my house for two days, I will shave my face (maybe), take a long hot shower and begin my Thursday adventure. My radiator/boiler in the basement ceased operations yesterday and I'm looking at hopping out of the shower into a 40 degree room. YIKES!

I'm taking my father to a physical therapy appointment today and continuing my email correspondence with a couple young filmmakers who are interested in creating Pharmacy Spirits music videos. I submitted a couple applications to NXNE in Toronto as well as a couple "Pride" festivals. The new album is almost done, we just need a couple vox track then we can get moving. All that an an article in tomorrows Lincoln Journal Star for Pharmacy Spirits and a TOP 20 declaration for my other band Beep Beep in the Omaha City Weekly's list of best bands of the year. I'm feeling like the universe has been giving me back something in the past few days...oh yeah, my neighbor used his huge snow blower to blow my massive expanse of sidewalk that cradles my little house on the corner. Bonus.

Still...I gotta get out of this town. Too cold, too old, not enough bold. This birdy needs to fly-speifically to Austin TX & NYC. I'm really looking forward to SXSW and visiting a friend in NYC. I don't know her name, but she is a one-woman band called ILL EASE. You must check her out. She is the real mccoy.
